Mixed Martial Arts

I was watching some MMA bouts the other night and was thrilled to find out that one of my favorite competitors of all time was on the card - Yves Edwards. This guy has such a beautiful style, I just love watching him. He's always so calm and collected, strategic and methodical, creative on his feet and on the ground.

He used to be a really well-known lightweight in the UFC, but they didn't used to have a lightweight title belt, so he was never official crowned as the champ. Then when the UFC finally got their act together and started offering a lightweight belt, Yves lost like 3 in a row. I had been wondering lately what happened to him, then POW - there he was on my DVD!

Here is a little highlight reel I put together for you from the fight. Wait for the end!! Yves is the bald one btw.

Proud Pandora Subscriber

Some of you may recall the post I did in July about the Pandora music site. If you have not used Pandora yet, you should be ashamed of yourself. Stop being lame right now and type Pandora.com into your browser. Don't even read the rest of this sentence, just go there now. Why are you still reading this?

Anyways, recently they started incorporating audio ads inbetween songs and it really pissed me off, so I wrote them an email expressing my thoughts on the topic. The Pandora staff quickly responded and informed me that they do have a subscription option and it's only $3/mo.

Well, you now reading the ramblings of a proud new Pandora subscriber. This is a big deal for me because I have always been a devout advocate of free music. The subscription not only helps to keep Pandora online, but it also removes ALL of the ads from the page.

Kathleen's Birthday

We had a great time celebrating with great friends Saturday night. We had a really good dinner with some impressive specialty drinks at BOOM noodles on Capitol Hill.

Then went dancing over at Havanas and finally ended up across the street at Quinns for more booze and some spicy frog legs.

Kath had a wonderful time - so thank you to all who were able to make it. And sorry if you should have been invited and were not (let me know to put you on the part list for next time). And it was a special treat to have Kathleen's sister Megan in town for the festivities.

Kathleen was in rare form. She got nice and loaded, sang, laughed and danced her butt off, but had only a mild hangover the next day. Perfect!

This is How Plagues Start

We have not had our trash picked up for 2 weeks now due to the snow. Not a big deal tho, we don't actually produce much waste around our house, but I was walking downtown with some friends and saw this down the alley. Shit damn! We're looking like NY around here.

Oh Right, I Have a Blog

Sorry everyone. I kinda forgot that I have a blog. It's been too long since the last update, so I'll give a quick recap of the latest happenings.

So we got major snow - like everyone else. I've been wfh all week and we put the cables on Kath's car, so we've been able to drive around when we want. It's beautiful... I love it!

I got some Bluetooth headphones that work with my cell phone / mp3 player. They work really well. Sound is good and I can talk on them too if I get a call when I'm running. It's SO nice not to have that stupid cord swinging around anymore.

We got some 30' tall bamboo for the side of the house to screen out the neighbors. This is the view out the bedroom window.

I think I broke my toe in Jiu Jitsu class. Can you guess which one?

Me and some of my elven buddies at the ho-down.

Happy Holidays and Merry Xmas!

Wonder Wifey 5K

This morning Kathleen made the longest run of her life at the Wonder Girl 5K.

She has been on a "Couch to 5K" program for the past couple of months and has been really impressing me with her progress and dedication. She has always been a sleepaholic, but has lately been setting the alarm and getting up early to hit the track!

According to Kathleen's running schedule, she was only supposed to run for 20 minutes today, which would have been the longest run to date, but we figured that she should go ahead and do the run today and see what happens. To both of our suprise she and her good friend Carrie both ran the whole thing!!! I am so proud.

The run is intended to promote self esteem and awareness of the benefits of physical fitness for young girls. It was non-competitive and there were no timing chips, so it was perfect for Kathleen's first organized run. They ran at Seward Park and had nice crisp weather with views of the water, mountains and trees.

Kathleen had fun and felt great the whole time and had no injuries. Plus, she walked away with a sense of accomplishment and a new-found excitement - she is officially a RUNNER now. And finally she understands why I keep doing all my "crazy" races.
See honey? See!!?

Kathleen and Carrie at the finish line.

A Goat Ate My 404

For those who don't know, the 404, or Not Found error message, is an HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and did not reveal the reason why.

That being said, a co-worker shared this one with me today. It's one of the best I've seen.

This is another one that is just brilliant.
