Changing of the Guard

I'm a little sad, and a little excited.

After many years of faithful service and numerous upgrades (2 motherboards, 3 cpu's, 3 heatsinks, 3 optical drives, 4 hard drives, 3 power supplies, 2 fan controllers, 2 lighting kits, and a few Operating Systems) it is finally time to retire my old "Hot Rod". I speak, of course of our computer that has most recently been functioning as our living room media pc.

We have just replaced the old beast with a new, store bought computer. It's a Gateway with the Intel i3 quad-core proc, 1 Tb sata drive, 6 Gbs RAM and Windows 7. It's super quite, very energy efficient, approx 1/3 to 1/3 the size of the old computer, and about 5 times as FAST!

I'm a little embarrased to have purchased a store-bought computer, but when I added up the cost of building a similar system myself, it was actuall a little bit more.

Here's some pix of the history of the old "hot rod" computer:

And we still have the ones you made, the spider one and the one with the dark blue-green flames on it. Yes, I think a row of outdoor planters somewhere in your back yard or on your back porch would be the way to go.
