Desktop Evolution
I have taken the next step with my computer at work. 3 monitors.
I can remember when I made the step from 1 to 2 monitors 7 or 8 years ago and quickly realizing that that was the only way to work and that there's no going back. Well it's the same with 3 monitors. I can't believe I've been squeeking by with only 2 for so long.
4160 pixels wide and 1400 high... oh yeah!

Enhanced Reality
I love these little videos. They look like miniature models or something. This beach one makes me feel a little high... Watch full screen if you can.

Evidently this is real

Goodbye Jack, Hello Penny
Today was a big day.
A couple weeks ago we bought another Honda from our friend Shireesha. Penny, as the car was named, is Kathleen's new ride and she is totally excited about it. The new car has AC, cruise, power windows, sun roof, auto trani, keyless entry... plus it's 10 years newer and 100,000 less miles. So, with some reservations, we put Jack (the old Honda) on Craigslist.
Today a kid and his dad came out and bought the car. He is 18 and it's his first car, so as they left our house they headed out for a monumental day in the kids life - learning to drive a stick.
Now we just need to find a good spot in the yard to bury this cash (for when the banks collapse).

Kitsap Color Classic
Last weekend was the last organized ride of the year, so John and I headed out bright and early across the sound on the ferry to Kitsap along with maybe 1000 other riders. It was a liesurly 40 miles that included a nice unexpected visit to Chief Sealth's grave at the Suquamish Tribal Cemetery.
Oh, and did I mention that I'm finally a "real' cyclist now? Yes, it's true. These shoes I bought on Saturday will prove it.

Affecting Change
When I started working at the new job, I quickly got into the habit of eating at the deli downstairs - pretty much every day. I would take my sandwich and chips in their styrofoam container up one flight of stairs to my desk, eat, then throw the styrofoam in the trash. After about a week of this, I started bringing in my own container. The girls at the shop jokingly gave me a hard time for brining in my container, but it turns out that they mentioned to the owner that some of the customers had been complaining about the use of styrofoam. SO... the owner switched to these biodegradable containers which are essentially the same price.
It's encouraging to see that an individual can affect change!
(You may also be interested to know that the city of Seattle has mandated a ban on styrofoam containers that will take effect in July 2010).

Big Business
There's something satisfying to me when I see my work being mass distributed. I just did this page redesign for AT&T. It's not going to win any design awards or anything, but it was fun creating the artwork for this community portal.

Bike Geek Stuff
I went down to Montlake Cycle last week and had a professional "bike fitting". It was very interesting. They spent 2 hours measuring, poking and prodding. There were all these gadgets and instruments... I felt like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV with all the high tech state of the art training gear.
The biggest adjustment made was to drop my handlebars by 4 inches, which sounds like a lot, but when I rode it the next day, it felt pretty normal. I did, however, increase my commute speed average by a full 1 mph! You can see my progress since May in this chart. Another factor that boosted my time was switch from a panier to a back pack in mid Sept.
