I went down to Montlake Cycle last week and had a professional "bike fitting". It was very interesting. They spent 2 hours measuring, poking and prodding. There were all these gadgets and instruments... I felt like Ivan Drago in Rocky IV with all the high tech state of the art training gear.

The biggest adjustment made was to drop my handlebars by 4 inches, which sounds like a lot, but when I rode it the next day, it felt pretty normal. I did, however, increase my commute speed average by a full 1 mph! You can see my progress since May in this chart. Another factor that boosted my time was switch from a panier to a back pack in mid Sept.
